DRAKE’S HOSTS “1st ANNUAL BEER FESTIVAL & WASHOES TOURNAMENT” ON JULY 8 TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SAN LEANDRO SCHOOL TEACHERS
Hoist a glass of beer, get a tax deduction and help a San Leandro teacher.
SAN LEANDRO, CALIF. (June 13, 2006) – Can raising a glass of beer also raise money for local teachers? Drake’s Brewing Co. hopes so, and is holding its first annual Beer Festival and Washoes Tournament on July 8 to benefit the teachers of Jefferson Elementary School in San Leandro.
The festival will feature award-winning beers from fifteen Bay Area breweries, live music from three bands and raffle prizes. In addition to hosting the event, Drake’s Brewing Co. will match every dollar for every ticket – which is tax deductible - sold for the event. Drake’s Brewing Co. officials hope to raise at least $16,000.
Other breweries participating in the festival include Marin Brewing Co., Bison Brewing Co., Magnolia Brewery, 21st Amendment Brewery, Triple Rock Brewery, Iron Springs Brewery, Russian River Brewing Co., Bear Republic Brewing Co., Thirsty Bear Brewing Co., Rubicon Brewing Co. Sacramento Brewing Co., EJ Phair Brewing Co., Eldo’s Brewery, Sudwerk Brewery and Seabright Brewery. “We and the other microbreweries are proud to support our teachers who play such an important role in our community,” said Pete Rogers, vice president of Drake’s Brewing Co., a division of the Rogers Family Company. “The event will feature some of the Bay Area’s finest ales and all proceeds will go directly to the teachers.”
The festival and tournament will be held Saturday, July 8 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Drake’s Brewing Co., 1933 Davis Street, Suite 177 in San Leandro. Tickets are $35 and include a sample glass, t-shirt, and beer. Additionally, there will be raffle prizes and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the Washoes (horseshoe) Tournament. Festival goers can also join professional judges in determining Bronze, Silver, Gold and People’s choice Awards for a “same hop” Summit IPA (India Pale Ale).
Live music will be provided by Tommy 3 Chord, the Shuffle Kings and the Doormats. Founded in 1989 as one of the Bay Area's first microbreweries, Drake's Brewing Company’s beers have earned numerous local, state, regional, national and international awards and accolades, including the Oakland Tribune's "Best of the Bay" award and "Brewery of the Year" by the East Bay Express newspaper.
