Here, our president, Jon B. Rogers, meets and greets children of workers on the Selva Negra farm in Nicaragua where we run one of our Community Aid programs. He was attending the opening of their new school, built by Rogers Family Company in 2004. With bright new uniforms and a hot lunch in their stomachs, these children are now going to school, whereas before they went hungry and often missed school to work in the fields to help their families.

You see, the Rogers Family Company is committed to treating our employees, suppliers, and customers as if they were part of our family. This extends to the workers on the farms where we buy our coffee as well as to their children. Since, unlike many other coffee companies, we actually go to the source countries and import the coffee ourselves, our travels have opened our eyes to poverty unlike we have ever seen. We decided to do something about that problem way back in 1994, before the idea of Fair Trade even existed. Our economic development program, called Community Aid, is helping to break the cycle of poverty and improve the environment - it's making a solid difference in the lives of our partner communities.
