Community Aid projects for the ENAS COOP of coffee farmers in Rwamiko.
In 2010, we spent $23,040 on refunds to the members of the ENAS coffee farming cooperative for meeting their cost savings and agricultural production quality targets.
From 2007 through 2010, we've spent $35,379 (classrooms), $3,210 (desks), $6,670 (books), $12,190 (block of toilets).
ENAS was the first farming COOP we worked with in Rwanda. It's located about 2 hours North East of Kigali. The majority of the schoolchildren attend Kagogo Primary school. Interestingly, students are responsible for the care of 812 coffee trees, rabbits, a cow and a small garden. The money from the sale of cherry to ENAS coffee washing station is used to pay for things at the school; for example the cow was purchased with this money.
In 2006, the ENAS COOP proposed the construction of 4 additional classrooms to help alleviate the crowded classroom conditions and provide a better learning environment for the students. The project received funding, and in March 2007 construction began and was completed in early 2009. In addition to the classrooms, 100 student desks and 1,385 Social Studies, Kinyarwanda and English books were delivered to the school. A small block of toilets was also built with stalls for 2 urinals and 4 toilets.
