DIY Coffee Mug For Grandparents Day

DIY Grandpa Coffee Mug

STRUGGLING TO FIND THE RIGHT GIFT FOR GRANDPARENTS DAY

Question:

What does a 3-year-old get for their grandparent?

Answer:

Whatever mom &/or dad can pick up on the way home from work on the Friday before Grandparents day.

That's usually how it goes for most, but there's a better way and thanks to sites like Pinterest & Grandparents.com there are a ton of DIY ideas available out there.

This DIY coffee mug idea is one of our favs, obviously. Easy, cheap, fun for the kids and let's face, just the kind of stuff a Mimi, Papa, Pop pop or Gramma will love.

WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO NEED

Materials:

  • Sharpie oil-based paint pens
  • White coffee mug
  • Approximate cost: $7

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry mug thoroughly. Have kids draw on the mug using the Sharpie pens. Kids can write text, draw pictures.
  2. Let dry for 24 hours.
  3. Bake mug in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, turn the oven off, but do not open the door immediately. This allows the mug to cool slowly and prevents cracking.
  4. Remove the mug once the oven has cooled completely. We recommend avoiding the dishwasher and sticking to hand washing to preserve kids’ art on the mug.
