FIRST ESPRESSO MACHINE GOING TO SPACE: The ISSpresso
There is a lot of talk around this ISSpresso machine headed into space come November 2014. Not to say that isn't totally awesome. Never before has a human had a piping hot espresso while bouncing around in zero gravity...umm...might be a reason for that. In any case, this contraption will be making the long journey to the International Space Station in an effort to, apparently, give these astronauts a little taste of home.
Two things I'm thinking here:
- This machine should be using our OneCups, and
- Why isn't anyone talking about the FIRST ITALIAN WOMAN HEADED TO SPACE?
FIRST ITALIAN FEMALE TO GO INTO SPACE
Her name is Samantha Cristoforetti, and according to her Twitter profile, "European of Italian nationality. ESA astronaut. Italian Air Force officer. Will fly to ISS in Nov. 2014 as part of Exp. 42/43.
Samantha Cristoforetti (born April 26, 1977 in Milan, Italy) is the third woman astronaut in the European Space Agency, and the first Italian woman astronaut. She is scheduled to be a part of Expedition 42/43 aboard the International Space Station.
Cristoforetti was born in Milan in 1977. She spent her childhood in Malè, in Val di Sole, Trentino, Italy. She studied in Bolzano and Trento and graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She studied at the École nationale supérieure de l'aéronautique et de l'espace in Toulouse, France, and at the Mendeleev Russian University of Chemistry and Technology in Moscow, Russia.
She also graduated in Aeronautics Sciences at the Italian Accademia Aeronautica in Pozzuoli, becoming one of the first women to be a lieutenant and fighter pilot in the Italian Air Force.
On July 3, 2012, the European Space Agency announced that Cristoforetti is set for a long-duration mission to the ISS in 2014. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samantha_Cristoforetti)
WOW! All of that by the age of 36. All of a sudden, I feel like I haven't done anything with my life. Anyone else? 🙂
A CALL TO ARMS OR KEYPADS ACTUALLY
I think you all might be on the same page as me here, but I'm going to say it first, "LET'S GET SOME ROGERS COFFEE ON THE SPACE STATION."
Together, we can make this happen. Share this post to Twitter and/or Facebook and use #RogersCoffeeInSpace and #Futura42. These incredibly smart folks will be living in the ISS (International Space Station) with zero gravity and zero access to gourmet coffee. Not cool, so not cool.
