You thought we were going to say coffee, didn't you? NOPE.
It's National Beverage Day and today we celebrate TEA.
According to a number of sources, tea is the most consumed beverage in the world, next to water.
In 2014, Americans consumed over 80 billion servings of tea, or more than 3.60 billion gallons. About 84% of all tea consumed was Black Tea, 15% was Green Tea, and the small remaining amount was Oolong, White and Dark Tea. USA is the second largest importer of tea after Russia.
Another interesting fact is that about 85% of all the tea consumed in the US is iced tea.
Apparently tea is even super good for you, too.
- Individuals who consume 3 or more cups of tea had a 21% lower risk of a stroke than people who consume less than 1 cup of green or black tea per day
- Black tea promotes fresh, sweet breath because of its polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants that help with plaque buildup.
- Based on a research study conducted of elderly people living in the Mediterranean islands it was discovered that people that had been consuming black tea on a long-term basis on a moderate level (i.e 1-2 cups a day) had a 70% lower chance of having or developing Type 2 Diabetes.
If you are a tea lover, you are in good company. And hey, we've got some of that healthy, super popular drink.
